Abstract

This paper examines the psychological significance of du‘a (supplication) in coping with anxiety and depression within an Islamic framework. Du‘a, as an intimate dialogue with Allah, provides a spiritual coping mechanism that fosters hope, resilience, and emotional relief. Drawing from Qur’anic verses and Prophetic traditions, the study highlights how supplication encourages reliance on divine mercy, reduces feelings of helplessness, and promotes cognitive reframing of negative thoughts. Modern psychological research also supports the therapeutic effects of prayer, showing correlations with reduced stress, improved mood, and enhanced coping strategies. By integrating Islamic teachings with contemporary psychological theories, the paper argues that du‘a not only strengthens spiritual well-being but also complements therapeutic interventions, offering a culturally and religiously sensitive approach for Muslims experiencing anxiety and depression.
